CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2009-2010 QUARTER FINAL: STUTTGART 1 - FC BARCELONA 1

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Quarter Finals & STUTTGART managed a 1-1
draw against reigning Champions FC BARCELONA that would have
tasted sour for them. A controversial game with "unseen" possible
penalties committed to the German taht were not called & a possiblefoul in the Barça goal.

The first half was all Stuttgart who exploited the poor Barça ball game
& their defensive openings, one of which lead to their opening goal in
the 25th min by Brazilian player CACAU. In fact, Barça was "terrible"
the first half & was lucky to still be alive after 45 minutes.

Then in the 52nd min IBRAHIMOVIC managed to score & equalize for
Barcelona after Pique - in possible off-side position & / or foul -
headed down to the Swede. An important goal the masked the poor
team performance of Barça as it gives them a valuable away goal
vital for the 2ºleg match at "Camp Nou".

The Germans will be disappointed as the played a great game, while
Barça will be happy to have escaped to be able to fight another day.
Things of Champions they commonly say in Football!

Liverpool will finish 4th

After over a week of voting you, the readers, decided that Liverpool will finish 4th in the Premier League this season.
Rather expectedly, the poll, which asked who would finish 4th this season, turned into a two-horse race between Rafa Benitez’ men and Manchester City. Liverpool received 47% of the vote, whilst City received 44% with the other 9% being shared amongst Aston Villa and Tottenham respectively.
Here is the result :
Liverpool – 47% (154 votes)
Manchester City – 44% (145 votes)
Aston Villa – 7% (22 votes)
Tottenham – 2% (8 votes)
Total votes : 329
I must admit I don’t agree that Liverpool will be the ones to finish 4th. I voted for City and I strongly believe I voted correctly. I was quite surprised to see the lack of votes Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham received (8 from a total 329. What up with that?)
Anyway, please take a few seconds to vote in our latest poll which can be seen just to the right of this post.

REAL MADRID: GONZALO HIGUAÍN AND THE INTEREST FROM JUVENTUS

The Italian Club JUVENTUS has been interested & has asked on
various occasions the situation at REAL MADRID of the 22 year old
Argentine International forward GONZALO HIGUAÍN. The Italian
paper “Il Corriere dello Sport” has again informed that Juventus
is still interested & willing to put up 35M€ to attempt to convince
Real Madrid to sell.

It wasn’t always smooth sailing for Higuaín at the Spanish Club,
definitely nothing like this season where he is the Clubs leading
goal scorer to date with 12 goals. Since his arrive in Spain with
just 19 years his adaptation to Spanish Football & with his current
Club has been a long & painful process. Apart from this his arrival
found a formable hurdle to jump in the name of Raul, Captain of
Real Madrid, who was untouchable & in fine form before
progressively lowering in form due to the passing of time.

The period of uncertainty, frustration, the adaptation & lack of
effectiveness lead Real Madrid many a time to consider selling
Gonzalo Higuaín. His name was mentioned in the complex transfer
operations of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká & others that just had
him in mind. However, Higuaín exploded with all his talent late
last season with important goals when coming on as a substitute
that gave signs that he was more than just an ordinary player.
This season has seen Higuaín win a permanent place in the team
leaving on the bench both Raul & the star signing Benzema, a
string of consistent goals taking his tally currently to 12 & convincing
the Argentine ( a tough critic of Higuaín) National Coach Maradona
to call up the forward for International duties.

Higuaín has earned himself his place & has exploded with all his
talent with hard work & humility, of which he has combined with
goals, to win the respect of his Club, peers & the fans. If Higuaín
continues his evolution like up till now the player could reach World
Class status soon with the sky being the limit. Juventus knows this
& wishes to incorporate the player asap before this major career
jump, but one doubts that Real Madrid will sell at all, especially
now that its 22 year old investment is finally paying dividends. The
latest news from Spanish Sports daily “Marca” is that the Spanish
Club is already working towards extending the players contract
until 2016, with the corresponding increase in economic conditions.
